This work titled “Winds of Emancipation” was one part of a larger a public-art commission called “Fah Who Dis” created by @artisticperceptionca in collaboration with @astrosankofa. The collaboration was responsible for bringing this historically important public art piece to life with for the City of Brampton with the official launch of "Emancipation Park" for municipality of Brampton on August 1, 2024.

For the central character I drew inspiration from the statue of liberty to create a powerful protagonist who was a share-cropper but now represents the rise to freedom for her and all her people. A halo of flourishing palm leaves and tropical flowers adorn her head symbolizing a new era of self-actualized purpose and agency to chose their own path to freedom. With defiant elegance, beauty and resolve she embodies a new beginning breaking the chains  of oppression and leading her people to a new dawn of liberation.
